The Karval School District RE23 Informational Summary
Karval School District RE-23 was formed in 1913 consisting of six schools throughout its area. In 1919 the idea of a consolidated school for the district came to be realized in Karval. In 1956 the current school building was built. The current school is located 75 miles East of Colorado Springs and 45 miles South of Limon, Colorado.
Over the years, Karval has seen many changes, but one idea has remained steadfast – Youth is our Asset, Education our Priority! In 2002 Karval School’s Board of Education began looking into online education as a way to broaden their district students’ educational opportunities. Karval can now provide courses such as Spanish, French, Humanities, Sociology, Finance, as well as many other courses to their students that they could not financially provide previously in their small district. This idea grew into the desire to offer a strong and broad education for any student, regardless of their location. So, in the spring of 2003, Karval Online Education became a reality.
The Karval School District RE23 values open and honest communication with its many stakeholders: staff, students, parents, and taxpayers. In order to meet the requirements of Article 44, Title 22 of the Colorado Revised statutes, The Public School Financial Transparency Act, we have posted the following items on our financial transparency webpage:
School districts and public colleges are bracing for what are expected to be deep cuts in K-12 and higher education to be announced Tuesday as Gov. John Hickenlooper unveils his first set of budget recommendations.
Hickenlooper, a Democrat, will outline his recommendations for the 2011-12 budget at a meeting of the legislature’s Joint Budget Committee on Tuesday. The new governor’s recommendations are essentially revisions to the spending plan first proposed by then-Gov. Bill Ritter, also a Democrat, in November.
