Kenneth D. Bridges is of Cherokee and Irish descent and grew up in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the Seat of the Cherokee Nation. He graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1976. He attended Northeastern State University, also in Tahlequah, and earned the equivalent of four degrees from NSU:

  • B.S. in Tourism Management/Business Administration, 1983
  • M.S. in Higher Education Instruction/Health & Human Performance, 1991
  • Certification Program in Education, 1995
  • M.S. in Education Administration, 2000

Mr. Bridges continued his education at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is Ed.D., ABD, Educational Leadership, and currently writing his dissertation on the role of school boards in educational accountability. He plans to complete his dissertation by July, 2012.

Mr. Bridges has been a teacher, coach, athletic director, alternative school director, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent in a 17 year education career in Colorado, Kansas, and Oklahoma. He is married to Cheryl Bridges, also a veteran teacher and coach, currently teaching elementary students in Karval. The Bridges have four children and two grandchildren.
