The State of Colorado issues a School Accountability Report every year on schools throughout the state.  The report contains a variety of information, including a rating for each school, ranging from "above average" to "unsatisfactory."  These ratings are based on CSAP and ACT test scores.  All student scores are factored into a "weighted index" to determine a school ranking.  Students who do not take the test are assigned a weighted index factor equivalent to unsatisfactory performance, which has a negative weighted value, and are averaged in with students who do take the test.

  • CSAP and ACT participation is a condition for re-enrollment in Karval Online Education.
  • The Colorado and U.S. Departments of Education may impose extensive reporting requirements and changes to school programming.  The way the NCLB law is written, unless we have 95% participation, we will be labeled as "not making progress, " regardless of how well our students perform.
  • The CSAP and the ACT are two standardized measures that give our school a "snapshot" view of our educational program.

We believe that parents should have the right to determine whether their children are tested.  On the other hand, if we do not require that CSAP and ACT testing be mandatory, we risk loss of funding by the State of Colorado.  We deeply regret forcing you into testing your child.  Karval Online Education policy, as well as the Performance Contract you completed upon enrollment states and requires:

  • I understand that Colorado public school enrollment requires participation in state testing.
  • Students currently in grades 3-10 must take the CSAP and students in grade 11 must take the ACT in the spring of 2008 or they will not be considered for continuation in the program.
  • Parent Responsibilities - Make arrangements as necessary to get the student to a CSAP testing center during the CSAP testing window for the State of Colorado.

As the testing dates draw near, you will be notified of the exact testing dates and location in which your child will be tested.  Testing will run over a three day period.  It will be necessary for you to make arrangements to drive your child to and from the testing location.
