Innovation for Colorado K-12 Online Students - Providing an Improved Academic Environment

Karval Online Education (KOLE) is a free public K-12 online school for Colorado residents and is accredited by the State of Colorado.  We provide a well-designed and enriched course of study to students in grades K-12 throughout the state of Colorado.

Our curriculum is aligned with Colorado State standards, and, in addition, we offer dual credit courses for juniors and seniors desiring college courses while meeting our high school graduation requirements.  KOLE meets all Colorado Department of Education assessment guidelines.

This all comes free to the families of Colorado resident students.  Karval Online will provide a free computer for the family to use while the student is enrolled in our K-12 online school, and we provide reimbursement opportunities to offset internet expenses and additional educational expenses.  Students enrolled in a different school district can also take our K-12 online credit recovery courses for a fee.

Karval School District RE-23 was formed in 1913 consisting of six schools throughout its area.  In 1919 the idea of a consolidated school for the district came to be realized in Karval.  In 1956 the current school building was built. Over the years Karval has seen many changes but one idea has remained steadfast - Youth is our Asset, Education our Priority!  In 2002 Karval School's Board of Education began looking into online education as a way to broaden their district students’ educational opportunities.  Karval can now provide courses such as Spanish, French, Humanities, Sociology, Finance, as well as many other courses to their students that they could not financially provide previously in their small district.  This idea grew into the desire to offer a strong and broad education for any student, regardless of their location.  In the spring of 2003, Karval Online Education became a reality.

KOLE provides a dynamic education with the flexibility to meet individual student needs at family’s desired place and time.  Students can log into their curriculum from any computer with internet access!  Ninety-nine percent of Karval Online’s enrollment now comes from out-of-district students from across the state of Colorado.  These students and their families seek out Karval’s program for a multitude of reasons:  teen parents, accelerated pacing, full-time working student, individualized program for learning disabilities, victim of criminal act, college credit opportunities, expulsion from traditional public school, illness, and good old-fashion parental control.

Our teachers have a clear passion for education and learning, and all are Colorado certified.  The teachers are computer users, and all are able to use the computer to communicate with their students in a variety of ways.  We realize some students and parents have more computer expertise, while others are novices.  Our teachers will spend time helping their students and parents so that all will learn the tools of the online school program efficiently.

Karval Online continues to provide leading innovation for families seeking alternatives to traditional public education, as our motto states, “Rethinking and rediscovering education in an exciting and positive way!”

Melissa Deemer

Melissa plans on going to college to be a registered nurse (RN).  After she graduates, she wants to work at either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Denver, or at the Memorial Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs.  She loves children and helping them in anyway she can, so being a pediatric registered nurse seems to be the best career for her.
