Dual College Credit | Print |  E-mail
Karval Online Education offers juniors and seniors who are academically motivated a unique opportunity.  With prior approval, students can enroll in college classes online and receive dual credit!  In other words, these credits will count towards high school graduation and college Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree programs.

The Karval Board of Education recognizes that limitations in facilities, equipment, and staff do not allow extensive variety in course offerings and that the abilities and interests of some students extend beyond the school's ability to provide educational satisfaction.

Therefore the Board supports the concept of extension courses from colleges and universities for students to be taken for high school and/or college credit with recognized and reasonable guidelines, proper counseling and screening, and sufficient and effective monitoring of the program and results by the staff and administration.

Guidelines that will govern extension courses are as follows:
  1. Extension courses are limited to juniors and seniors.
  2. Students must pay in advance for extension courses.
  3. Students will not be allowed to replace classes being offered by Karval Online Education with extension classes.
  4. A student must have a GPA of at least 2.5 in order to take courses by extension.
  5. Juniors are limited to only one class per semester by extensions.
  6. Upon satisfactory completion, defined as a minimum grade of C-, the student is reimbursed 100% of the tuition cost up to, but not exceeding, $850.00 per semester.

Our suggested classes are always transferable to any public institution of higher education in Colorado!

Students wanting to pursue this option should take the following steps:

  • After enrollment in Karval Online Education the student should notify the office that they are interested in taking college classes online.  It is also possible to take such classes "live" if the student is within reasonable travel distance of the college.  The teacher will provide initial counseling based upon the student's career goals and previous academic work.
  • The teacher will then refer the request to the Administration for approval.  The student must complete the Post Secondary Enrollment Form.
  • If the program request is approved, the student then contacts the higher education institution of their choosing from the Colorado Community Colleges Online website.  Go to www.ccconline.org to review a list of the colleges available.  Credits earned through these colleges could then be transferred to the college of your choice.  The student will need to speak to the person or office in charge of "Post Secondary Options Act" enrollment.  (The higher education people will know what this means.)
  • The higher education institution will then schedule the student for an AccuPlace test to determine the student's likelihood of academic success.  If the student passes the test, they will be assigned an advisor and allowed to register for classes.
  • The student completes the class online (or on the college campus) to the satisfaction of the professor, as they would if they were a college student.
  • Upon completion of the class, the student submits his/her grade report and tuition receipt for reimbursement.

If you have further questions about this program, please contact us or the higher education institution of your choice.  Ask for the person or office that deals with "Post Secondary Options Act" enrollment.
